Travel Information

 

VISA

No visas are required for the citizens of the USA, Canada, Japan, Israel, Switzerland and Countries of the European Union to travel to Georgia for up to 90 Days. A valid passport is needed.

 

Citizens of other countries can obtain their visa at Georgian Embassies or Consulates in their countries. However, if you are a resident in the country where Georgia is not represented by any of its Diplomatic or Consular Missions, it is free to make application at any of the following visa sections. The citizens can obtain Georgian entry visas at the consular-visa services located at the airports in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, at the ports of Poti and Batumi and at some of the border points. Please, note that there can be some limitations and we strongly recommend you to contact us for further information.

 

Tourists arriving in Georgia by cruise ships and staying in Georgia for less than 72 hours do not need visa. A valid passport is needed.

 

How to Get to Georgia:

By Air: Direct flights to Tbilisi are available from London, Paris, Munich, Koln, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Istanbul, Tel-Aviv, Moscow, Kiev, Athens, Tehran, the major cities of CIS. These flights are operated by Georgian Airways, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, DBA and other air companies.

By Land: From Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. There are several check-points on these directions. Please, note that currently foreigners can not cross the border with Russia.

By Sea: Two main ports of Georgia are Batumi and Poti. Although, passenger boats are seldom organized and are not developed at present.

The country code of Georgia is 995. Tbilisi code is 32. International calls can be made from your hotels, the central post office and a number of telephone call service offices.

Mobile phones: GSM system covers major territory of the country.

Internet:  There internet cafes in the central part of Tbilisi and in other big cities.

 

Currency, Banks and Credit Cards

Georgian currency is Lari (GEL). There are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Lari notes. There are 100 Tetri in 1 Lari.

Credit cards can be cashed at most banks in Tbilisi and other major cities. 

There are cash machines at most banks and in the central streets in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and other cities.
