HORSEBACK RIDE IN TUSHETI

We offer horse riding tours to one of the most interesting and remote mountain regions of Georgia. Tusheti is a fascinating mountainous province, situated on the northern slopes of the Eastern part of the Main Caucasian Mountain Range. Tour itineraries generally involve 4 to 7 hours of horse-riding a day on normal paths. Sometimes we cross high passes but the terrain is never dangerous   or difficult.

We provide local Caucasian mountain horses, which know the local landscapes well. The saddles we use are traditional to the Georgian mountain people.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi. Meet at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. Night in Tbilisi.  Day 2: We travel to Kakheti province. Excursion in David Gareji Monastery. Overnight in Telavi at a private house. Day 3. After breakfast we depart in a 4WD for Tusheti Province (100km, 4 – 5 hours). The. We cross the Main Caucasian Ridge over the Abano Pass (2930 m). We reach village Shenako (2000m) and stay at a village house. Day 4: We start our riding day in the early morning and passing village Diklo we continue along the Pirikita Alazani gorge to the village of Dartlo /1850/. After 6 – 7 hours ride we stay in local guesthouse about (1850m). Those who wishes can follow the guide to walk up a hill where another village Kvavlo (2100m) is located. Night in guesthouses. Day 5: Ride to village Parsma (1960m), (4 hrs) one of the fascinating and remote mountainous villages in Georgia. Camp near the village. Day 6: We ride up to Nakaicho Pass at 2980 m. Cross the pass and ride to a beautiful village Jvarboseli (7 – 9 hours). Camp near the village. Day 7: We take about 10 kilometers horse ride down the river gorge to village Omalo. Visit the ruins of Omalo Fortress. Continue to village Shenako. Free time to relax. Overnight in Shenako at private houses. Day 8: Morning drive again up to Abano Pass and then down to Telavi. On the way visit Alaverdi Cathedral. In Telavi we change transport and travel to Tbilisi. Arrival in Tbilisi for dinner time. Accommodation in Hotel. Day 9: Departure. End of the tour.

Accommodation:

-       - 4 nights in Tbilisi at a comfortable 3 star centrally located hotel.

-       - 2 nights in Tusheti province (village Shenako) at a simple village house. Bathroom is shared.

-       - 3 night in tents.

Meals:

-       As specified in the itinerary: B – breakfast, L – lunch, D – dinner.

Guiding and the Staff:

-       - An English speaking mountain guide throughout the tour.

-       - Experienced cook for adventure tours.

-       - Local assistants on trek.

-       - Excursion guide on city tour.

Transportation:

-       - Depending on the group size we use the following transport: for transfers to/from the mountainous areas: 4x4 car or a minibus. For city tour in Tbilisi we use comfortable car, minibus or a bus.

-       - Airport transfer included.

Group support and equipment:

-       - Horses

-       - Tents (2 – 3 persons share a tent).

-       - Kitchen facilities and stoves.

-       - Dining tent; portable tables & camp chairs.

-       - Plate, cup, spoon, fork, etc…

Entrance fees:

Important Notes:

- Single room accommodation in the village houses is possible but limited according to the availability.

Single tent can be provided upon request. Extra charge for a single tent is: EUR 30.

 - Please, limit your personal luggage on trek to max. 20 kilograms in order to allow horses to carry your luggage.
